Education Landing Page

Pentair
UX Design, UX Writing

Business Need: An education center landing page that highlights water educational content for the 3 business segments in a visually appealing and easy-to-understand way. The page needed to be created and live within 3 days and use existing AEM components. Copy needed to be clear, concise, intuitive and SEO optimized.

Approach: Put segments in order of business priority, do keyword research, and review the analytics of the top viewed education pages for each segment. Meet with stakeholders to understand if there are any upcoming articles that need to be featured.

Outcome:  I revised and optimized the articles' titles for SEO and created short descriptions for each. The tone of the copy is informative. Call-to-action links are descriptive for clarity, accessibility, and SEO. I added visual interest to the page through the use of iconography, AEM components, and imagery; and, created a jump nav to allow users to get to categories quickly. Stakeholders only wanted to highlight 6 articles to start. Phase 2 plan was to add load more buttons as and filtering capabilities.

Content Lifecycle Management

AICPA
Content Deletions, Content Governance

content-guidelines.jpg

Business Need: AICPA.org had over 16,000 pages and documents. Much of the content was outdated and low-performing. It was hard for users to find what they needed and diminished the user experience. We needed to reduce content by 50% and do a complete conduct audit with the 100+ stakeholders.

Approach: Several things needed to happen to get to a place of a 50% reduction in content:

  • Create resource and process plan

  • Conduct a content audit to determine where each piece of content fits in the user journey and what content should be kept. revised, deleted or archived

  • Optimize remaining content for SEO, voice, tone, and web standards

  • Use analytics to assist in determining high and low performing content

  • Create KPIs, tracking and maintenance processes for all remaining content

  • Establish a deletion and archive process and schedule new content to auto-deactivate in AEM

  • Create a content governance process

Outcome:  After successfully presenting my plan to leadership and receiving buy-in, I got to work. I conducted the content audit and reviewed the recommendations with stakeholders. I held several working sessions to talk through content, review analytics, set scope, and review processes. I was able to delete close to 7,000 pages. I worked with the analytics manager to set KPIs and tracking on the website for us to review monthly to assess content performance so we can alert stakeholders to low-performing content. I created best practice guides for writing for the web for stakeholders who were editing the content that was remaining on the website and create guidelines for how long to keep content going forward.

Design System Documentation Website Redesign

Best Buy
Information Architecture, Navigation, UX, Content Design

Business Need: To redo an outdated documentation site for the design system that is easy to use, intuitive, works for both designers and engineers, and is visually appealing.

Miro board of research

doc-miroboard.png

Approach: Conducted research on best practices and industry standards for design system documentation sites (Miro board image above). This allowed me to see what others were doing as well as to understand the design system documentation landscape. I also got approval to attend a Brad Frost design system workshop, which armed me with even further knowledge. I then began working on restructuring the navigation.

Internal user research: I conducted a card sort with users of the website. From there, I used those results combined with best practices to come up with a revised navigation structure and taxonomy.

Wireframe: I created a low-fidelity wireframe to show the content hierarchy, navigation, and layout for the homepage. I reviewed with the team, received feedback and went back to iterate on the design, navigation and content as shown in the 2nd draft wireframe.

Outcome:  Next step in the process is to have a final round of feedback and iteration, create wireframes of remaining page categories, finalize navigation and to conduct a content audit and content plan.

2nd Draft Wireframe

After reviewing the 1st draft with the team, I went back and incorporated feedback and updated the wire
